Russell has been Musical Director to The Lindow Singers since 2002. He is a Senior Vocal Coach/Repetiteur at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied piano, double bass, composition and conducting. After graduating from the RNCM he studied for two years at post-graduate level, obtaining a Performer's Diploma with Distinction in accompaniment.
He has accompanied singers at recitals and master classes throughout the UK. He has performed in the Channel Islands, Finland, Sweden and Denmark and has taken part in recordings for the BBC, ITV and RTE. He is an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, which has taken him to Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Africa, Uganda, Holland, Italy, Austria and many parts of the UK.
As Musical Director of the Northern England Chorale he has conducted in Finland, Cyprus, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Delft. He is also Musical Director of Sale Choral Society and has worked with many choral societies as conductor and organist. He was Assistant Chorus Master to the Halle Chorus for eight years.
As Chorus Master of the Chamber Choir and Opera Chorus at the RNCM, he has been involved in many major opera productions. As well as a thriving private teaching practice in singing and piano, he is tutor in piano at Moreton Hall School, Shropshire, and a tutor at the Centre for Young Musicians in The Hague.
Richard was born in Stretford, Manchester and educated at King's School Macclesfield. He is a graduate of Sheffield University where he studied music and he has a postgraduate qualification from Portsmouth Polytechnic.
Richard has studied organ under Michael English, Graham Matthews (Sheffield Cathedral), Simon Lindley (Leeds Parish Church) and Gordon Stewart (Manchester Cathedral). He became an Associate of the Royal College of Organists in 1997. He is currently Assistant Organist at St. Michael's Church, Macclesfield.
He has accompanied the Northern England Chorale on tours of Cyprus, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Delft and has played the organ of the United Reformed Church, Wilmslow in the BBC Radio 4's 'Sunday Worship' programme.
Richard has been accompanist to The Lindow Singers since 2000 and accompanies other choirs and choral groups in the area.
Roderick Barrand is the accompanist of Sale Choral Society. He is a graduate of Manchester University and the RNCM and is also on the staff of the RNCM.
After graduating from Manchester University and the RNCM following completion of the joint course, Roderick did two years' PG extension, specialising in accompaniment. He then spent a year at the Wiener Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst on an Austrian government scholarship, to increase his knowledge of German Lieder.
He returned to the UK to join the College as a staff pianist, and also became official pianist of two Choral Societies, appearing as accompanist and concerto soloist in their concerts.
He has also been official pianist for Summer Courses in Europe and the UK, including the LDSM and 'London Masterclasses on Tour' in August 2011.
His role at the RNCM includes accompanying vocal classes, masterclasses, students in public competitions, end of year recitals and one to one singing lessons/team-teachings on the 'Access to Work' scheme.
In addition to his activities as a performer, he also coaches singers from home.
